Hayden had his first day of school this week. We were not able to get his paperwork into the private school fast enough so now he is in public school. Apparently Jesus just doesn't love us enough. Yeah... good times. Anyway, Hayden is now enrolled in East Central ISD. At first I was really, really upset. I felt that I let my son down in the worst way. Now, that I actually saw a class and met his teachers I feel a little better. Hayden's teacher is Mrs Watts and she really is a good teacher, from what I can tell. his class has only 9 kids and she seems to really engage Hayden. We're thinking of keeping him for Kindergarten and moving him to private school for first grade. We'll see how it goes. Here he is leaving for his first day.
I sat and had breakfast with him in the cafeteria.
Then he had to get lined up with his class. He's practicing his aloofness ala Steve McQueen... it drives the girls crazy!
Here's his class. It's about 9 kids and we get daily progress reports. Pretty cool stuff.
To celebrate his first day of school the MIL brought Serenity a cake... because... well, I really try not to guess at why she does anything. Seri liked it though!
So, there ya go. Hayden has started his trek towards edumucations... which should never really stop. In fact I think that if you ever get to a point where you're not learning anything anymore... you're in trouble.
We'll see what happens with the private school. I have to go to church tomorrow. We're going to become members so we can get Hayden in a good school next year. I can't possibly believe that this will be anything short of fun fun fun!

Here is a copy of the streaming radio stations I listen to at work. Most are local to San Antonio but one is a high school radio station out of Seattle. They play techno 24/7. When you are doing a repetitive task, it is the greatest stuff to listen to. Give it a try!

The Omen
I was reloading my wife's work PC when the impossible happened. My XP cd shattered in the drive! I have heard of this happening, but in almost 10 years of being a SysAd I've never actually had it happen to me. It went off like a gunshot!
I took the drive apart and cleaned out all of the broken disk and, believe it or not the thing worked like a champ.
So there you have it. Mythbusters eat your heart out!
I figure that this is a bad omen or something. Now I have to keep a Windows ME disk in a shallow bowl of scotch under my bed for three days. It's the only way to de-funk the bad ju-ju.
BTW, I had another copy and Joy's PC works great. All's well that ends well.

The last few days...
We started out with moving Hayden to the next level at gymnastics. He moved a little early so he's smaller than the other boys. We go to Brown's for his lessons. The head coach there is Vladimir Artemov, who is a Russian gymnast with 18 medals, 10 of them are gold. Whelp, the normal teacher didn't come in and the other boys didn't show so Hayden's first class in the new division was with the Russian. It was pretty comical. I would have some awesome pictures of Hayden running laps with Vlad but my camera-phone decided that it was going to suck instead. Go Sprint! I do remember enough of my Russian that I was able to pick out what a Olympic gold medalist thinks about training a 5 yr old. Like I said... good times.
I signed up for discrete math and statistics for college this semester. I was hoping that the discrete math was going to be, you know, discrete... as in just coloring or talking about our feelings. Yeah, it's not. I think I'm pretty screwed in that department.
Speaking of screwed, I don't know what we are going to do about Hayden's school. I'll tell you what... after dealing with all these 'christian' schools... I wouldn't go to any of their churches! Talk about a bunch of elitist jerks! We're still in the same boat and I really don't know what to do. The public schools here in San Antonio are so bad they should be shut down... well the ones on our side of town anyway. I just don't understand how you can call your school an extension of your ministry and then only expect students who are professing Christians. It's retarded. If I try to be honest about what I believe they want nothing to do with Hayden. Yeah... that's open for you! Oh well, I'll figure something out.
After that I decided to get really, really sick to switch things up. It wasn't as much fun as the brochure said. I did get a copy of Beauty and the Beast which pacified the kids for a while. That was pretty cool.
After that I got better and started up on my college homework. Wish me luck!

Church... why the hell not!
In order to get Hayden into a good private school we have decided to start going to church. I tried to do things the right way and explain my beliefs to the school... well that didn't work. So, now we'll do it their way. We're going to become dyed in the wool members so we can get Hayden squared away for first grade.
Here's Seri all dolled up. It's funny because she really likes getting dressed up. 1 and a half and she's all into looking cute!
She even got her own rocking chair at Cracker Barrel.
Hayden got really excited about his salad... he must get that from his mother.
Oh, and I updated our family picture thing. I think it looks good.
All in all it was a pretty nice day. I actually enjoyed the service and got to meet up with Joy's Aunt and Uncle... and some of her cousins. Good times.
I'm going to try and make this a regular thing. I have to get a good attendance record for the school paperwork and they have a really engaging Sunday school for Hayden... so he'll learn some things as well. I think that this is going to turn out ok.

There should be an application process for fatherhood...
I spent most of today convincing my son that he should play Wii Boxing with me instead of play outside with his friends.
In my defense, we had just purchased the Wii so I wanted to try it out and... he's only five so I know that I could totally kick his ass!
Yep... I haven't read any parenting books but I'm pretty sure that most of them have a chapter or two about me.

Movie time!
Why are they always infront of me?
Breaking Dawn
If you haven't heard of Stephanie Meyer yet, then you must not be a teenage girl. She writes a series of novels based on vampires and love... and it's the latest set of books that Joy is into. Joy can read a 400 page novel in about 2 hours. I try to keep up and then we talk about them. It's nice that we both like reading but it did lead me to here.
This was the midnight release for book four of the Twilight series. Let me paint a picture for you. It's a vampire story... a vampire, high school love story. The book comes out at midnight and the store is in the middle of San Antonio. What does all that mean? It means that I spent 45 minutes with emo kids... stinky, retarded emo kids. That wasn't the thing that bothered me though. This did.
See that kid in the green shirt. That shirt has a picture of Budda on it. I know because I own that shirt. I bought it because I thought it was cool. Now I can never wear that shirt again... because apparently I am is cool as that kid.
We did get to go to my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant. It's cheap and fast.
Serenity loves the rice.
Hayden likes the beans. (and making faces)
And Joy... well, Joy came along for the ride!
I also saw Hellboy II, it was ok. We sat next to some juvenile delinquents... which sucked, but this town is kind of going down hill anyway. I really can't wait to move somewhere nice and cold, where people are too busy keeping warm to be annoying!
